Brothers Serobe

1900 - 1910s

Biographical details regarding the Serobe (or Serovbe) brothers who worked in Shushiat the turn of the 20th century, have not been found. We know only of a few of their photographs that depict the ordinary residents of the city, as well as foreign visitors to Shushi. According to Serobes’ studio backstamp, their establishment also accepted orders for objects made in the ‘photo-enamel’ technique – an uncommon specialisation amidst local photographers in this region.

As with any images produced by the photography studios in pre-revolutionary Shushi, Serobes' photographs contain important visual evidence about the rich multicultural environment of this Transcaucasian city.
